Fans Petition To Replace Confederate Statue with Missy Elliot

ย

With hella controversy surrounding the Charlottesville domestic terrorist attacks, White Supremacist rallies and Civil War reminders, a Virginia man is petitioning for a Missy Elliott statue to replace a confederate monument in Portsmouth, VA.

Because-WHY NOT!?

The Missy Elliot fan, Nathan Coflin wrote out his argument in a statement throughย Change.org.

โ€œWe believe it is time to finally replace the Confederate Monument in Olde Towne Portsmouth, Virginia near the intersection of Court and High streets with a new statue of a true Portsmouth native hero. Who better to encapsulate the culture and spirit of the city enshrined in a new monument than Grammy Award winning rapper, dancer, and record producer Missy โ€˜Misdemeanorโ€™ Elliott?โ€

Coflin went on to not only list a plethora of Elliotโ€™s achievements but he also noted that she, unlike Thomas Jefferson and Robert E. Lee, achieved all of this success without ever owning a slave. Bloop!

In conclusion, Coflin ended his plea with a few very strong lyrics from the queen of hip hop herself,

โ€œGetting this statue put up will be a lot of work and you may ask yourself is it worth it?โ€ he wrote. โ€œI say yes and ask you to join me in letting us work it. Together we can put white supremacy down, flip it and reverse it.โ€

The petition had a total of 26,203 when we signed it. Your turn.
