After just two months of marriage, “The Chi” creator Lena Waithe and Alana Mayo have separated. The split was confirmed by a rep for Waithe to Page Six on Thursday.
“After careful thought and consideration, we have decided to part ways. We have nothing but support for one another and ask that you respect our privacy during this time.”
Back in November, Waithe, 35, told Ellen DeGeneres Show that her and Mayo secretly tied the knot at the courthouse in San Francisco. “We went to San Francisco. We went to the courthouse and got married right in front of Harvey Milk’s bust. It was her idea — like all good things are — and she was just driving and she saw the courthouse and she said, ‘We should get married there,’ and I said, ‘Cool, I’m down.
Now here’s the dirt:
According to Love B Scott, a source told the site that their decision to “secretly” marry was to appease Mayo after Waithe had been unfaithful. The source went on to say that even after the the two married, Lena was still buying designer gifts — Chanel, Gucci — for other women.
It’s unfortunate that after the nuptials things didn’t change for the better.
